Privacy policy
What stays with you, and what does not
Draft under review. The effective date is set when the App Store listing goes live; until then this page describes the apps as they are built today.
The short version
- Your notes, recordings, transcripts and mail evidence live on your devices and in your own iCloud. We run no server that holds them. We cannot read them.
- The apps collect no analytics and no advertising identifiers, and include no third-party tracking.
- Anything that leaves your device to a service that is not Apple's happens only when you turn that service on, and only for the folders you allow.
Who we are
Everyday Paper is published by the entity named in the App Store listing (the publisher is being finalised ahead of the public launch; this page will name it). Questions go to the address on the support page.
What the apps store, and where
Everything you write or record is stored in the app's own library on the device and, if iCloud is on, in your iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit. iCloud data is protected by Apple's terms and your Apple ID. Backups you choose to keep in Google Drive go into a folder the app creates in your Drive; we hold no copy.
Locked notes are encrypted on the device with a passphrase only you know. Neither we nor Apple can read them. If you forget the passphrase the note cannot be recovered.
Permissions, and why each is asked for

Services you can connect
Each of these is off until you connect it, and each can be disconnected in Settings.
- Google account. Signing in asks for your email address, read-only access to Gmail, and access to files the app creates in Drive. Mail is read to find messages related to your matters and to keep evidence such as dates and deadlines beside your notes. Mail is stored on your device only. An account you mark as privileged is treated as headers-only in every automatic feature. Google's use of data received through these APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- Notion. A token you paste lets the app read pages you share with it and write pages you send.
- An AI service of your choice (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, a local Ollama model, or a compatible endpoint). With a key you provide, note text you ask about, improve or brief is sent to that provider under its terms. Folders you mark "on device" or "never" are never sent. Web research for meeting briefs, when you turn it on, sends a meeting's title and the attendees' names and organisations to that provider and nothing else.
- Cloud transcription (OpenAI). Off by default; when on, recordings are sent to OpenAI for transcription instead of being transcribed on the device.
What we receive
Nothing from the apps in ordinary use. If you choose to export diagnostics from Settings › Support and send them to us, that export contains device and performance information and the app's own log lines, and no note content. Apple's crash reporting reaches us only if you have opted into sharing analytics with developers in iOS or macOS settings.
This website
The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. If you add your email to the web app list, it is stored in our database with the time of sign-up and used only to tell you when there is something to try. Ask on the support page to be removed and it is deleted.
Children
The apps are not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the change is described in the app's release notes.
